Boys, I know this is an old thread, but I'll check in. The featured intake separator is std. on my 2014 825i. It is secured by a notch at one end and a rubber grommet at the other that pops onto a stud protruding from the mount, and a snap-ring goes in the cross-drilled hole to keep the thing on the stud. Only takes a screwdriver for the hose clamp to remove it for cleanout. I drove into deep fallen leaves recently and experienced a weird noise, which turned out to be leaves blocking the intake screen at the top of the separator chamber. The intake is positioned facing inboard in a sheltered spot but it is not fool proof, only highly fool resistant. IMHO for heavy dust and even some mud it looks like a good setup.
