6x4 Diesel Engine Hard to Start

I've just bought a 6x4 Diesel Gator which is a fabulous addition to our small estate. The only thing that I'm trying to sort out is that it takes quite a bit of cranking to start it when the engine is cold. The glow plug light goes off and it takes a large number of attempts to get it going. Once going however it is fine and starts immediately after it has been stopped. Any ideas on what would cause the slow start from cold?

I was hoping someone with more experience would answer, as I haven't checked out much on the glow plug system on my gator. The main things to check are the glow plug relay. With a test light or multi meter see if you have good voltage at the relay and through the relay when the glow plug light is on. And the glow plugs themselves, you need to unhook each one and test it's resistance to ground. I don't know the specs but if it's open or shows no resistance they are bad.
