    2007 HPX wheel bearing

The front left wheel/tire is clunking while going over the slightest bump. Does anyone know how to replace or repair the wheel bearing? Or where I could download instructions?

    Thanks, Abe

I am pretty sure if you take the center hub cap (grease cover) off you will find a castle nut with a cotter key in it. Pull the cotter key, remove the nut, slide the whole wheel hub assembly off. The bearings/races will have to be driven out and if you are not comfortable doing that, by all means haul the wheel/hub to a repair shop and have them remove the bearing/races.

You might need a bearing press. Im not sure if the bearing will come off the spindle so easy. You also might need a puller.

purplewg: sounds right on the money!! Under the grease cap, I just got done putting the front wheel bearings in my truck which is kinda the same thing, I don't find it hard or even necessary to pay someone else do it. Just when you remove it don't tear it up, flat bit screw driver or a small pry bar works very well, just work around the edges until the grease cap pops up the the bearing is about the same amount of effort. Yet it also depends on how comfortable you are working on stuff. If ya ain't to confident then I would recommend having a person that knows what they're doing do it because they are easy for me to work on but I always keep in mind that failure is always an option!!! lol

Yeah, many people have told me I shouldn't use this method but I have done it this way for years. I am not close to any shop that would do that kind of work so I do what I have to do. I do have a press and will use it when I can but sometimes it is just easier to drive them out while being careful.

So I did a little more inspecting and I do not think I have a wheel bearing problem. What I have is a rattle but not exactly a click coming from the front drivers side wheel. The bearings and axles seem to have the same amount of play as the passenger side. I thought it was a strut but everything seems tight. I can not duplicate it by pushing down on the front end. Has anybody else experienced this?

If It is a 4X4, I would suspect a CV joint.
